-Because we are a place of business, appropriate attire must be worn while exploring.
Tops: We have a professional explorer scrub top that is required for safety reasons. They are $25 and will be for sale at the Kick-Off meeting or by request throughout the year.
Pants: If you have scrub pants, they can be worn. Otherwise, please wear full length jeans that do not have holes or drawings on them. Remember, we are a veterinary hospital and we need to protect our skin, so please no shorts or skirts.
Shoes: Please wear sneakers. We require sneakers because we don't want you getting anything on your feet or on your pretty shoes! We have a lot of things that you probably don't want on your feet (ex. urine -yuck!) No flip flops or sandals.
The Do's and Don'ts of Exploring
~Do feel free to ask questions after an exam or when you are not with a client. No question is a stupid question; ask away!
~Do ask us if there is anything you can help with. Sometimes we are slow in some areas but not in others. Just ask a technician for something to do and we will find you something!
~Do play with the dogs and cats that are boarding. If we are slow, the pets always need extra attention, so have some fun!
~Do have fun! Learning and volunteering doesn't always have to be boring. We like to laugh and have a good time, so join us!
~Don't talk in the exam rooms unless asked directly by a doctor or technician. This is the client's time with the doctor, not the explorers. You are here to observe.
~Don't be a wall flower. In other words, don't just hang out on a wall. Find something to do or get someone to teach you something new. Don't be shy; we don't bite!
~Don't play on your cell phone. You're here to learn. We will find you something fun to do at the clinic if you let us!
~Don't hang out in the lobby. There are plenty of interesting things to do in the lab area. We don't want to crowd the lobby where clients are coming in and out.
